Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you work with?

We primarily support U.S. citizens and green card holders living abroad, as well as U.S.-based individuals with international income, foreign accounts, or state tax filing needs. Our clients live across the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and the U.S.

Do I have to file U.S. taxes if living abroad?

U.S. citizens and green card holders are required to file annual U.S. tax returns regardless of where they live, if their income exceeds the filing thresholds. You may also have to report foreign accounts and income

How do I file U.S. taxes from abroad?

Blue Haven Advisory specializes in filing expat tax returns that are compliant and optimized for your particular situation. There’s a lot of information out there and it’s easy to misunderstand the rules (for example, one of the most common is that “if I make under 130K, I don’t have to file”). While all expat tax returns will include a 1040, they also involve numerous other forms, such as Form 2555 and/or Form 1116.

Can you help with Streamlined Foreign Offshore Procedures?

Yes. We support qualifying clients who need to catch up on past U.S. tax filings using the IRS Streamlined Filing Compliance Procedures. We’ll walk you through the eligibility and process.

Do you handle FBAR (FinCEN Form 114) filings?

Yes. If you’ve had more than $10,000 across foreign accounts at any time during the year, you may need to file an FBAR. We include this in our services when applicable and encourage generous transparency in this reporting, given the purely administrative nature of this form.

Do you work with small business owners or LLCs?

We do. Specifically, if you own a U.S. LLC or corporation and need a state franchise tax filing or bookkeeping support, we can assist. We do not currently support payroll or sales tax.

Can you help with IRS letters or notices?

Yes. We offer limited IRS correspondence support. If the issue stems from an error we made, we will correct it free of charge. If the matter is unrelated to our work, or if the IRS is requesting clarification or documentation beyond what was originally filed, support is available as a separate, billable service.

Where are you based?

We are a Texas-registered firm operating remotely. Our team is based in the Caribbean, Europe, and Latin America, allowing us to serve clients across time zones.

How do I get started?

We intentionally designed our step-by-step process to be straightforward. To work with Blue Haven Advisory, please complete our short intake form, and we’ll send you a tailored engagement letter, checklist, and secure link to upload your documents. If more information is required to ensure an accurate filing, we’ll schedule a video or voice call to meet.

How much do your services cost?

Our fees vary based on the complexity of your return. We’ll confirm your fee after reviewing your intake form, before any work begins. This ensures both parties are clear on the work to be delivered, meaning there are no surprise invoices for you.

Is my data secure?

Yes. We use encrypted platforms and secure client portals for all document sharing and communication.

Can I speak to someone directly?

Absolutely. Once your intake is received, we’re happy to schedule a consultation or clarify questions via email or GoogleMeet.
